BROWN & CO

The B&C Story

Brown & Co. lighting and design store is described by its director Katie Brown, as a space for the creative arts to meet and for people to purchase exclusive works from designer NZ artists, handpicked by Katie, because of their uniqueness, rich aesthetic and high quality.

Mediums include blown glass, lighting, furniture, sculpture, printmaking, painting and glass engraving.

Brown & Co. is situated at Ridgway Chambers, 29 Ridgway Street in the oldest building in Whanganui’s CBD, which has recently undergone extensive renovations and is now a stunning example of a modernised older building which has retained its historic character.

Katie jumped at the chance to take up residence and be where Whanganui’s arts scene is at its most vibrant. She also wants to inspire others and is enrolling the community on her back doorstep. Brown & Co will feature a children’s art programme that will get the next generation enthusiastic about 'all things creativity', and provide some fun in the space.

Brown & Co. is a showcase of Katie’s new line of work and that of other artists that she admires. Visit the store and select a statement piece for yourself or someone special.

The Energy

Glass blowing is a glass forming technique that people have used to shape glass since the 1st century B.C. The technique consists of inflating molten glass with a blowpipe to form a sort of glass bubble, that can be molded into glassware for practical or artistic purposes.

Thanks to the glass blowing process, glass has been one of the most useful materials and has been worked with for centuries.
