Designer, maker & teacher Rowan Dicks can be described as a fanatic when working with wood. His career started as a young boy making projects with his dad, he then went on to study a Diploma in Furniture Design and making, this is where his creative nature flared and carved a path toward artistic furniture design.

After his studies he went on to gain an apprenticeship in furniture making working for a small company in Palmerston North. He gained valuable skills not only in producing furniture but also joinery and shop fitting.

For the last 9 years Rowan has been teaching at UCOL in Palmerston North. This has allowed him to pass on what he is truly passionate about, driving his students with his own fuel of creativity, enthusiasm and knowledge.

His Style is unique and distinctive, beautifully fusing fine art and functional design. Rowan also has a side hustle, working most nights in his workshop at home under the name Rdfurniture. “I finally have a workshop on my doorstep where all my dreams can be sculpted”.

Rowans latest creations include, Soul, a one of a kind artistic chair, designed as a statement of visual pleasure, and Solera, an elegant LED lit floor lamp, inspired by the idea of inverted wine barrels projecting a flowering light.

Rowans hunger for design only grows stronger with each project, “I have so many ideas; I need more hours in the day”.
